Volkswagen Polo GT

Introduction

The GT version of the popular supermini Polo, Polo GT is a hot hatchback which has gained eminent popularity in the country's Auto market just like the Polo. Polo GT is a grand hatchback with upgraded features and performance and the regular facelifts and upgrades to the Polo clearly shows its popularity and demand for the car and the brand in Sri Lanka. Polo GT is a bigger car in size as compared to the Polo and a pure hot hatchback.

Engine, Mileage and Variants

Polo GT offers a 1.2 litre TSI petrol engine in the country which delivers a maximum output of 105 PS @ 5000 rpm along with a maximum torque of 175 Nm between 1500-4100 rpm. The 7 speed DSG Automatic Transmission delivers an impressive combined mileage of 17.21 kmpl with the hatchback's acceleration from 0-100kmph in less than 10 seconds. A decent performance is delivered by the 7 speed DSG Auto transmission and the power standards of the brand have been maintained.

Exteriors

Not much of difference in shape from the Polo has been given to the Polo GT except for the GT badge on the front grille and on the rear. It has got a more sportier look with Halogen headlights in black finish and chrome finish front grille with the GT badge embossed on it. Similar body lines running throughout the length of the hatchback are possessed along with body colored bumpers, Power side mirrors & door handles. Dimension wise the car stands at 3971mm x 1682mm x 1469 mm (L x W x H) with a long wheelbase of 2469mm which makes the hatchback get a broader stance and wider interior space. 15 inch Alloy wheels in a 5 spoke V pattern design with a tyre size of 185/60 R15 add to the sportiness of the hatchback.

Interiors

Polo GT comes with a dual tone interior set up with comfortable wide fabric upholstery seating. Leather-wrapped Power steering wheel with chrome accents and control buttons and Piano Black finish on the steering wheel, dashboard and centre console gives a fine touch of grace from the inside. The hatch has other styling features also, a Leather-wrapped gearshift knob, Aluminium pedal cluster, Ambient lights and a Cooled glove box. And also comfort features like Cruise Control, Climatronic automatic air conditioning, 12V outlet in front centre console and RCD 320 music system with USB, AUX-IN, SD card and Bluetooth connectivity which provides comfort and entertainment in the ride.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous

Front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, ABS, ESP, Hill-hold control, 3-point front and rear seat belts and Dual front airbags help the driver and the passengers from injuries at the time of collisions. Rear parking sensors, High mounted stop lamp and front Fog lamps with cornering lights provide additional vision and safety while driving. Decent Safety features are equipped in the Polo GT unlike the additional extra ones possessed by the Polo.

Verdict

Polo GT is a sporty hot hatchback with spacious interiors and bold exteriors. The power delivery is very impressive with the 7 speed DSG Auto transmission with which the car can become a bright shining star on the list of subcompact hatchbacks of the country.
