Volkswagen Touareg

Introduction

Named after the nomadic Tuareg people, the inhabitants of the interior North Africa, the mid size crossover SUV Volkswagen Touareg was born with a joint venture project initiated by the parent Volkswagen Group, along with the Audi and the Porsche in order to create an SUV, best suited for an Off- roading adventure. The SUV got a facelift which has been introduced in the Sri Lankan market and all those who love to ride on adventurous terrains will surely praise this off-roader SUV.

Engine, Mileage and Variants

Volkswagen has provided the SUV a powerful engine for the successful deliver of power the car is actually made for. The 8-speed automatic Tiptronic gearbox offers a 3.0 litre V6 Diesel engine in the country which delivers a maximum output of 245 PS between 3800–4400 rpm along with a maximum torque of 550 Nm between 1750–2750 rpm. Fuel efficiency of the SUV is not very impressive with a combined mileage of 9.3 kmpl. An exclusive acceleration is delivered by the SUV enabling it to reach 0-100kmph in mere 7.6 seconds which is impressive according to its size with a top speed of 220 kmph. Exterior

Being a crossover SUV, bold and tough looks were a necessary element to be integrated. The front of the SUV has a chrome finished grille with the brand Logo and daytime running LED Headlamps. Side gates have a curvy edge with chrome finished side moldings, roof rails and window panels. The curved shape is possessed by the rear tail gate as well with wide tail lamps, chrome surrounded exhaust pipes and a rear windscreen wiper. The SUV measures 4795mm x 1940mm x 1709mm (L x W x H) with a huge wheelbase of 2893mm. 5 spoke 17 inch alloy wheels give a sporty stance along with smooth performance.

Interiors

Lavishing interior design with a dual tone arrangement, leather finish comfortable Electronic seats and 3 spoke Electric steering wheel is encased in the SUV. A dashing black distinct looking dashboard is a statement of elegance with wide centre console having cupholders and multiple controls mounted along with chrome surrounds on the AC vents, broad MID unit, and the RCD touchscreen Infotainment system with Radio, MP3, CD Player and Navigation support. Climatronic air conditioner with 2-zone temperature control is an additional comfort feature. Accessories like Foot well Light and Carpet Mats are also provided in the SUV. A huge boot space of 580-litres which can be increased upto 1642 litres by folding down the rear seats describes the spaciousness of the Touareg from the inside.
