Introduction

Tata Motors have always been competent in the race of introducing high quality hatchbacks in the country's market. The all new Tata bolt is the new, quality hatchback introduced in the country. The looks of the car justifies its name, Bolt stands for speed and fast running and the car has been given that attitude in its looks. The hatchback has a stunning design and exciting new technologies that adds to its performance and also the sporty look of the car makes it look bolder and wider.

Engine, mileage & variants

The Tata Bolt comes in 2 engine types, a 1.2 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine and a 1.2 litre 4 cylinder diesel engine. It has 4 variants XE, XM, XMS, and XT all equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission. The 1.2 litre Petrol engine delivers a maximum output of 90 PS @ 5000 rpm along with a maximum torque of 140 Nm between 1500-4000 of rpm. The 1.2 litre Diesel engine delivers a maximum output of 75 PS @ 4000 rpm along with a maximum torque of 190 Nm between 1750-3000 of rpm. Tata has claimed the mileage of the Diesel engine to be 19.8 kmpl as the city mileage and 22.95 kmpl while driving on the highway whereas the Petrol engine mileage is 14.2 kmpl in the city and 17.57 kmpl while driving on the highway. The Petrol engine accelerates from a standstill to 100 kmph in 17 seconds with a top speed of 154 kmph and the Diesel engine accelerates from a standstill to 100 kmph in 15.2 seconds with a top speed of 150 kmph. Overall performance of the hatchback is pretty good and power-packed. Both the engines have a fine delivery of power and mileage.

Exteriors

The Tata Bolt offers urban exterior looks and features. The front and the rear bumper are dual tone which gives a shiny stance to the car. The headlamps of the car is given a smoked out long look with multi-reflectors and the fog lamps are also given a very distinct sporty look with Chrome bezel in the XT variant. The ORVM comes with LED side turn indicators. The hood of the car is given a bold broad design with horizontal lines adding a detailing look to the design. The sides are also defined with thick character lines across the door handles and at the end of the door gates. The door weather strips and the front grille of the car have chrome outlining. The wheels of the car have Full wheel caps with tire size of 175/65 R14 and the XT variant comes with a set of Alloy wheels with tire size of 175/65 R15. The car measures 3825mm x 1695mm x 1562mm (L x W x H) from the outside with a wheel Base of 2470mm. The rear side of the car is quite eye striking with stylish tail lamps which offers a distinct look to the bolt. The rear has an integrated sporty looking rear spoiler and LED illumination on rear license plate with a chrome bar on top. The car has offers distinct look from the rear side which is very sporty and catches everyone's eyes on the road.

Interiors

The car has got a single tone black interior design with fabricated seat upholstery. The centre console has cup holders in the front and power outlet. The doors have fabric inserts and door pockets. The front air vents are given a chrome finish which stylish the basic look. The infotainment system of the car is by Harman with AM/FM, USB, AUX IN, iPOD connectivity and 4 speakers plus 4 tweeters. In the XT variant it's a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connect, phonebook access, call logs (Incoming, outgoing, missed), call reject with SMS feature, conference call and incoming SMS notifications and read-outs. It also has special features like Smartphone enabled navigation and Voice command recognition technology. The driver infotainment system has distinct helping features like digital fuel gauge and LED fuel and temperature gauge, digital clock, in-gear and shift recommendation, trip meter A & B, Instantaneous and average fuel efficiency, and distance to empty. All these features are rare to find in a hatchback and Tata has set up a standard for its hatchback cars in the country. The steering wheel of the car has a 3 spoke design with chrome outlining and audio controls mounted on it. The centre console is in a descent V shape design and the overall looks of the car are simple but descent for a hatchback design.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous

The car has been made keeping in mind of all the safety equipment necessary and demanded. It has disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear and ABS with EBD and CSC along with Driver and co-passenger airbags in most of the variants. It has Rear door child lock, Immobilizer, Speed dependent auto door lock, Front fog lamps, high mount LED stop lamps, Seat belt reminder (Driver only), Door open and key in reminder, Door open display in all the variants and Rear defogger, Rear fog lamp, Rear smart wiper with wash, and Perimetric alarm system exclusively in the XT variant. The car has immensely impressing safety features that help the buyer feel secure about the car in order to decide to buy it. Tata has equipped the Bolt with sufficient and descent safety and security features and all of them are impressive for a hatchback.
