The Compact Sedan justifies the name given to it by the power and features it possesses. Engine, mileage & variants

Tata Zest has been introduced in a variety of variants and engines in the country. There are 6 variants namely XE,XM,XMA,XMS,XT and XTA. It is a front wheel drive that comes in a petrol and 2 kinds of diesel engines. The former is a 1.2 litre engine with 4 cylinders delivering 90 PS of power @ 5000 rpm and a maximum torque of 140 Nm between 1750-3500 rpm and out of the latter the more powerful 1.2 litre Diesel engine which also comes with Automatic Manual Transmission in the country delivers a power of 90 PS @ 4000 rpm along with a maximum torque of 200 Nm between 1750-3000 rpm whereas the other one delivers 75 PS power @ 4000 rpm along with a maximum torque of 190 Nm between 1750-3000 rpm. The petrol engine delivers a mileage of 17.57 kmpl whereas the diesel engines give a slightly higher mileage. The 90 PS diesel engine with Manual Transmission delivers a mileage of 20.65 kmpl whereas the one with Automatic Manual Transmission delivers a slightly higher mileage of 21.58 kmpl. The 75 PS diesel engine delivers a mileage of 22.95 kmpl. The overall mileage of all the variants are very impressive for a compact sedan to ride the roads of the country. The petrol unit of the Tata Zest can race to 100 km/hr speed in under 16 seconds which is not the best in class figures, but it offers decent acceleration.

Exteriors

The basic look from the outside given to the Zest is quite distinct from the other Tata cars like the Indica e-XETA and the Indigo eCS. The Zest is given a very Bold look with a higher ground clearance, wheel arch and broader shape to the Headlamps and Fog lamps. The front grille comes with chrome Tata Signature. The headlamps are swept back with projector lights and the ORVM comes with side turn LED indicators in all the variants. The fog lamps also comes with a Chrome garnish in most of the variants. The XT and XTA models have LED Daytime Running Lights and Light Guide Rings and also set of 4 Alloy wheels. The side stance has got character lines running through the gate handles and the bottom of the gates adding to the detailing of the look. The rear side has a silver chrome bar on the rear tail gate along with chrome strips below the window panel on the sides. The car measures 3995mm x 1706mm x 1570mm (L x W x H) with a wheelbase of 2470mm. Zest rides on stylish 15 inch wheels which measures 185/60 R15 in size.

Interiors

The Tata Zest has an amazing Infotainment system that is the paramount feature of its interiors. It has a ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment system by Harman exclusively designed for the car that has distinct features like bluetooth connectivity with phonebook access, call log display, Call reject with SMS feature, incoming SMS notifications and read-outs and smart Navigation options. The car has 4 speakers + 4 tweeters with automatic speed dependent volume control that gives the car a luxury like feel for the driver and the passengers. The steering has audio control buttons mounted on it. The dashboard comes in a classy dual tone premium layered form and the 90 PS diesel engine has an AMT gearshift feature also. Coming to the seat comfort, Tata cars possess high comfort wide seats for driver, front and rear passengers. The driver seat has height adjustable option and Co-driver seat under storage drawer. The overall look of the centre console is very stylish for a compact Tata sedan and comfort is also not overlooked.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous

Certain additional safety features are also added in the Zest like then Rear parking sensors with display, Rear defogger, Speed dependent auto door lock system, Front and rear fog lamps, Immobilizer, Driver and passenger airbags in most of the variants, Perimetric alarm system and Front seat belts with pre-tensioners & load limiter. All these features are unlikely to be seen in other compact sedans. Zest has Disc brakes at the front and Drum at the rare and ABS with EBD and CSC that provides an additional safety to the ride. The Sedan has been given sufficiently descent safety features.

Tata Zest has been seen as an amazing subcompact sedan when it comes to its interiors and safety features.
